GENERAL INFORMATION (FAQs)

Who can join the military chorus?
We are looking for singers and musicians from all branches of the military. Anyone who has served or is currently serving is invited to join.

Can families of military service members join?
We are grateful to the families of service members for all they do. However, at this time, MVET is only open to active or veteran military personnel.

Do I need opera experience to join?
No! Our repertoire will cover a variety of patriotic hymns and ballads, including many you are already familiar with. Opera range and/or experience is not required.

Is this for professional singers only?
Absolutely not! We welcome singers of all skill levels to join. If you can match pitch and carry a tune, we’d love to have you join.

What is the time commitment?
In addition to performances, rehearsals will be held once a month. To maximize participation, rehearsal locations will vary between Knoxville and the surrounding counties. These sessions will include rehearsal and provide an opportunity for the group to socialize and build camaraderie.

Where will the MVET perform?
In addition to performing the national anthem at key civic engagements, performances will include a range of patriotic anthems and hymns to serve a wide range of community events in East Tennessee.

What do members wear at performances?
Members dress as if they are attending the event as guests. Many members have polos or shirts that represent their branch of service, which is great, but not required.
