Auditions for local and regional singers interested in joining the Knoxville Opera Chorus or participating in our community programs will take place on June 11 and July 12, 16, and 18* at Knoxville Opera.

Whether you’re new to the area, just starting your career, or looking to make new artistic connections - we want to hear you. Our auditions are a great way to introduce yourself to Knoxville Opera and to be considered for future performance opportunities, including:

  • The Knoxville Opera Chorus

  • Community Engagement Performances

  • Mainstage or Comprimario Roles

LOCAL SINGERS

Auditions for local singers will be on June 11 and July 12 and 16 at Knoxville Opera. Sign up for an audition time below.

LOCAL
REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 18 or older

Prepare 2 pieces to perform from memory (aria,
art song, musical theatre, sacred repertoire)

• One piece should be in English, other may be in English or other language (Italian, French, German, etc.)

A pianist will be provided; sheet music should be double-sided and hole-punched in a binder

Please arrive at least ten minutes before your audition time to fill out paperwork 

REGIONAL SINGERS

Auditions for regional singers within 270 miles of Knoxville will be on July 18 at Knoxville Opera. Sign up for an audition time below.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must reside within 270 miles of Knoxville

Prepare 4 contrasting selections

• Three selections must be arias; the fourth selection can be art song, musical theatre, crossover, or sacred

What programs does this audition cover?
Our auditions cover consideration for inclusion in the Knoxville Opera Chorus and performance opportunities for community engagement programs, like our Young Audiences school tours and the Rossini Festival.

While we are not focused on casting for our Mainstage roles at these auditions, outstanding performers may be considered for future placement.

Can I audition for the Children’s Choir, Gospel Choir, or Military Chorus at this audition?
No, we host separate auditions for those programs. Sign-up for our emails or follow us on social media to be the first to hear about new audition opportunities.

What do I need to prepare?
Please prepare at least two songs to perform from memory. These can be arias, art song, musical theatre, or sacred solos. One must be in English, and the other may be in any language.

Is a pianist provided?
Yes — we will have a pianist on-site to accompany your vocals.

What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring printed sheet music with any needed markings. You are also welcome to bring a resume and headshot, but feel free to save paper by uploading these items directly to your application form.

How long will the audition take?
Each audition lasts for 5-8 minutes, allowing ample time to perform two pieces of music.
